airBaltic carries the Stanley Cup

airBaltic has announced a unique opportunity to provide transportation of the Stanley Cup – the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff champion. It was carried from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto to Riga and afterwards to Tampere, as a part of the 2023 NHL Hockey Day in Finland. airBaltic operated flights from Frankfurt to Riga and from Riga to Tallinn.

The Stanley Cup is a trophy awarded to the winner of the world’s professional ice hockey championship, an annual play-off that culminates the season of the NHL. The Stanley Cup was first awarded in the 1892–93 season and is the oldest trophy that can be won by professional athletes in North America. The cup’s donor was a governor-general of Canada, Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston, for whom it is named. The cup became the sole property of the NHL in 1926. It holds engraved names of teams and individuals, who have won the trophy. The only Latvian, whose name can be found on the cup, is Sandis Ozolinsh (1995–96 Colorado Avalanche).

airBaltic carried 86% more passengers in February 2023

During February 2023, the Latvian airline airBaltic has carried 232 800 passengers or by 86% more than during the same period last year. In the previous month airBaltic performed 2 560 flights, marking a 33% increase from February 2022.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic: “During the first two months of the year we have carried close to half a million passengers. This is almost twice as many as last year, indicating a strong growth for airBaltic. Also, we are looking forward to offering the largest number of new routes in a single season for the upcoming summer. This expansion of the route network is already being reflected in the demand for the airline’s services, and we are confident of continuing to see growing numbers of carried passengers and operated flights in the coming months.”

airBaltic unveils its 40th Airbus A220-300 aircraft in Latvian flag livery

airBaltic in a special event together with the aircraft manufacturer Airbus unveiled its 40th A220-300 aircraft in a livery of the Latvian flag colours, honoring the great, long-standing collaboration ties between Latvia and Canada.

airBaltic’s 40th A220-300 aircraft, registered as YL-ABN, is planned to join the airline’s fleet in early April 2023 with a special event also held in Riga, Latvia, to celebrate this milestone. This will be the second A220-300 in the airline’s fleet with a special Latvian flag livery.

Thus far, airBaltic has carried nearly 11 000 000 passengers on the Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Airbus A220-300s of the airline have completed more than 126 000 flights and flown over 275 000 block hours.

Since May 2020, airBaltic operates all its flights with a single aircraft type – Airbus A220-300 – thus minimizing the complexity and benefiting from the additional efficiency provided by the aircraft.

airBaltic to wet lease four Airbus A320s from Avion Express

airBaltic has announced that during the summer season of 2023 it will wet-lease four additional aircraft short-term – to meet the increasing passenger demand and ensure a successful performance of planned flights. To support these efforts, a partnership with the leading narrow-body ACMI and charter operator Avion Express has been established, adding the Airbus A320-232 aircraft of 180 seats to the fleet of airBaltic.

In total, two of the aircraft will operate out of the Riga base, starting from March 26 to October 28, while one will be based in Vilnius and another in Tallinn, from March 1 to October 28.

The wet-leased aircraft will be available in two configurations, with burgundy red leather seats and blue textile seats. The onboard ambiance will feature airBaltic-branded white headrest covers, Baltic Outlook inflight magazine, and the airline’s safety cards. Furthermore, the crew of Avion Express has been instructed to detail, in order to ensure the same high standard of service asairBaltic.

The Airbus A320-232 aircraft of Avion Express (registration numbers: 9H-AMI, 9H-AMK, 9H-MLY, 9H-MLX) have been manufactured in the period from 2008 to 2011.

airBaltic records EUR 32 million operating profit in 2022

airBaltic has published its annual consolidated financial results and the sustainability report of the year 2022, highlighting strong positive business indicators. The company recorded operating earnings of EUR 32.0 million, a significant increase from the previous year. Furthermore, its revenue exceeded EUR 500 million – a 145% year-over-year growth.

In addition, airBaltic achieved significant improvements in other key financial results. EBITDAR increased from EUR 0.3 million in 2021 to EUR 129.7 million in 2022 – an improvement of EUR 129.4 million. However, the number of passengers climbed to 3.3 million, representing a growth of 105% over the previous year. Moreover, airBaltic operated 59% more flights than in 2021, with a total of 37.3 thousand in 2022. The net result improved by EUR 81.5 million to a net loss of EUR 54.2 million, showing a strong recovery.

airBaltic to connect Tampere with Nice and Milan

airBaltic has announced the addition to the list of direct flights from its base in Tampere (Finland) – to Nice (France) and Milan (Italy). Starting in May, the new destinations will be connected with two weekly flights.

airBaltic already flies nonstop flights from Tampere to Copenhagen (Denmark), Munich (Germany) and Amsterdam (Netherlands) as well as sunny leisure destinations of Malaga (Spain) and Rhodes (Greece), in addition to continuing flights to Riga (Latvia).

airBaltic bids farewells to its last Bombardier Q400

airBaltic has announced that on February 1 it has successfully concluded the redelivery process of its last Bombardier Q400 (DHC-8-402) turboprop (YL-BAQ) aircraft back to the regional lessor Nordic Aviation Capital. Now, the comp-any operates a fully single-type fleet of 39 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

The first Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft joined airBaltic back in 2010. Over the years, 12 different Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft have carried more than 11 million passengers in total and have performed over 222,000 flights all across the Europe.
